Historical Overview

Snapdragon Stadium is a modern, multi-purpose venue located in the Mission Valley neighborhood of San Diego, California. Owned by San Diego State University and managed by OVG360, the stadium was constructed as part of the broader SDSU Mission Valley development project. The site previously hosted the former San Diego Stadium, which served as the home for professional and collegiate football for decades before its demolition. Construction of the new facility began in 2020, and it officially opened its gates in August 2022, with the San Diego State Aztecs football team playing their inaugural season there that same year. Designed as an open-air venue, the stadium was built to integrate into the surrounding community, featuring sustainable design elements and proximity to public parkland. Since its opening, the stadium has become a central hub for sports and entertainment in the region. It serves as the home ground for the San Diego State Aztecs, the San Diego Wave FC of the National Women’s Soccer League, and the San Diego FC of Major League Soccer. The venue has hosted significant sporting milestones, including record-breaking NWSL attendance figures during the San Diego Wave's debut match in September 2022. Beyond its primary tenants, the stadium hosts a diverse array of events, including concerts, international sporting competitions, and community gatherings, solidifying its role as a cornerstone of San Diego’s sports landscape.
