Philips Stadion
About Philips Stadion
Philips Stadion is the iconic home of PSV Eindhoven, one of the Netherlands' most successful clubs. With a capacity of 35,000, it is one of the finest stadiums in the country. Jong PSV, the reserve team, also play select home matches here in the Eerste Divisie.
Historical Overview
The Philips Stadion, located in the Frederiklaan area of Eindhoven, has served as the home of PSV Eindhoven since the club's formation. The site was originally established as the Philips Sportpark in 1910, serving as a recreational sports field for employees of the Philips electronics company. Following the official founding of the Philips Sport Vereniging on August 31, 1913, the ground became the permanent base for the club's football activities. Over the subsequent decades, the venue evolved from a simple pitch into a modern, all-seater stadium through a series of incremental expansions and renovations, most notably during the 1970s and 1990s. The stadium was officially renamed the Philips Stadion in 1990 to reflect its status as a premier professional arena. The completion of the four corners in 2002 finalized the stadium's current structure, allowing it to reach its present capacity of 35,000. Throughout its history, the venue has hosted numerous international fixtures, including matches for UEFA Euro 2000, and remains a central pillar of the Eindhoven community. Beyond its primary role as the home of PSV Eindhoven and Jong PSV, the stadium has become a significant cultural landmark, frequently hosting large-scale concerts and events. Its enduring presence on the original 1910 site underscores a unique industrial heritage, as the stadium remains deeply integrated into the historic Philipsdorp neighborhood, which was originally constructed to house the company's workforce.
