About Huntington Bank Field

Huntington Bank Field, formerly known as FirstEnergy Stadium, is an American football stadium located in Cleveland on the shore of Lake Erie. Opened in 1999, it is the home stadium of the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League. The stadium has a seating capacity of around 67,000. Huntington Bank Field hosts NFL games, concerts, and other large sporting events. Its lakeside location means games are sometimes affected by strong winds and cold weather, especially later in the football season.

Historical Overview

Rising on the shores of Lake Erie, Huntington Bank Field serves as the home of the Cleveland Browns. The stadium was constructed on the site of the former Cleveland Municipal Stadium, which was demolished in 1996 following the relocation of the original Browns franchise to Baltimore. To ensure the return of professional football to the city, Cleveland voters approved funding for a new facility that would retain the Browns' name, colors, and history. Construction began on May 15, 1997, and the venue officially opened on September 12, 1999, with a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
