Estadio Gran Canaria

Located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Estadio de Gran Canaria serves as the home ground for UD Las Palmas. The stadium was inaugurated on May 8, 2003, with a friendly match against the Belgian club RSC Anderlecht, which the home side won 2-1. This opening marked the club's transition from the historic Estadio Insular, where the team had played for 59 years, to a modern facility designed to support the club's growth and accommodate larger crowds. Owned and operated by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the venue was built to serve as a multi-purpose arena for the island. Throughout its history, the stadium has undergone significant structural changes to improve the spectator experience. Most notably, the venue underwent a major renovation between 2014 and 2016, during which the original athletics track was removed. This modification allowed for the expansion of the seating area, bringing the front-row spectators significantly closer to the pitch and creating a more intimate atmosphere for football matches. The stadium has also hosted the Spain national football team for selected international fixtures. Today, the Estadio de Gran Canaria remains the largest sports venue in the Canary Islands. While the club has experienced various fluctuations in its competitive standing, moving between the top flight of Spanish football and the Segunda División, the stadium continues to function as a central hub for local sporting culture. It stands as a modern landmark in the Siete Palmas district, reflecting the ongoing commitment of the island to professional football and providing a consistent home for UD Las Palmas supporters.
