For decades, the soul of Borussia Mönchengladbach resided within the tight, atmospheric confines of the Bökelbergstadion. As the turn of the millennium approached, the club’s ambitions and the evolving demands of modern football necessitated a move from the aging facility. Construction of a new arena began in November 2002 on the site of a former British military barracks. In 2004, a new era dawned with the inauguration of Borussia-Park, a state-of-the-art venue designed to provide the infrastructure required for competing at the highest levels of the Bundesliga and on the European stage. The stadium officially opened on July 30, 2004, with a tournament featuring the hosts, Bayern Munich, and AS Monaco. Since its opening, the venue has served as a comprehensive hub for the club, housing administrative offices, training facilities, and the FohlenWelt museum. While the stadium was not selected as a host venue for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, it has since hosted matches for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. Architecturally, the stadium is defined by its steep-angled stands that bring fans close to the pitch, including a massive north terrace that serves as the spiritual successor to the Bökelberg’s famous standing section. The complex has evolved into a modern landmark, blending functional design with the club’s deep-rooted identity. Today, Borussia-Park stands as a testament to the club's growth, bridging the proud history of the Bökelberg with an ambitious, globalized future.
