Historical Overview
Opened on August 1, 1975, the Silverdome was an engineering marvel with its 80,000+ capacity and air-supported roof. It hosted Super Bowl XVI in 1982, the 1979 NBA All-Star Game, and numerous concerts including Elvis Presley and The Who. After the Lions left in 2001, the stadium fell into disrepair. The roof collapsed in 1985 and again in 2013. The stadium was finally demolished in December 2017.

The Silverdome's air-supported roof was the largest of its kind when built. Super Bowl XVI was played there in 1982. Elvis Presley performed at the Silverdome on New Year's Eve 1975, drawing 60,000 fans. The roof collapsed twice - once in 1985 from snow and again in 2013 after the stadium was abandoned.
