Shea Stadium

Opened on April 17, 1964, Shea Stadium was named after William Shea, the lawyer who helped bring National League baseball back to New York. It hosted the Beatles' famous 1965 concert and was the site of the Mets' miraculous 1969 World Series victory. The stadium also served as a relief center after the September 11 attacks in 2001.

The Beatles played a famous concert at Shea Stadium in 1965. The stadium's circular design allowed it to be reconfigured for both baseball and football. The 'Shea Hey' chant was a trademark of Mets fans. The stadium hosted the first ever baseball game played in a dome-free outdoor stadium at night under temporary lights.
