Millwall has confirmed a major milestone after finalising a deal with Lewisham Council to secure its future at The Den. The agreement grants the club a 999-year lease covering the stadium and surrounding land, following initial plans announced in May 2024.
The club described the deal as a significant step that provides long-term stability, protects its historic home and supports future growth.
Millwall has faced uncertainty over the site for years, linked to earlier redevelopment plans involving nearby land. Those issues began to ease in 2019 after revised agreements allowed both housing projects and the club’s interests to move forward.
Having played in Bermondsey since 1993, the club had previously considered relocating during the dispute. The new lease now removes that uncertainty.
With the agreement complete, Millwall plans to upgrade facilities, improve the matchday experience and expand year-round use of the stadium. The deal also secures space for the Millwall Community Trust, enabling further work in the local area through a new dedicated facility.

Chairman James Berylson said the lease gives the club the security needed to plan for the future, while also supporting regeneration, job creation and community benefits in the borough.
Lewisham mayor Brenda Dacres added that the partnership will deliver wider improvements, including housing, public spaces and enhanced community services.
Millwall has also outlined ambitions to redevelop The Den, including a phased expansion that could increase capacity to around 34,000 and bring the stadium closer to Premier League standards.
